American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall was invited to Indiana by the Indiana Farm Bureau to learn more about the issues impacting agriculture and rural communities. President Duvall specially requested the opportunity to tour a veal farm and the American Veal Association (AVA) was delighted to host the group.

On a sunny September afternoon, President Duvall as well as Indiana Farm Bureau state and county leaders toured the Strauss Feeds plant, where high-quality milk formula is produced and packaged every day. The visit continued with a tour of a local veal farm, offering a firsthand look at the meticulous care and attention to detail that defines AVA member farms and production facilities.

In addition to feed, nutrition and animal wellbeing topics, these Farm Bureau leaders learned that formula-fed veal calves are raised in group pens to a market weight of about 550 pounds. The dialogue was engaging as several common questions about veal were addressed.

Zippy Duvall shared after the tour, “I know firsthand the care that farmers take with their animals, and this veal farm tour was another great opportunity to see how animal care is a top priority for America’s farmers.”

"It's a privilege to bring a national spotlight to Indiana agriculture during this visit,” said Indiana Farm Bureau president Randy Kron. “This tour was a great opportunity, not only for President Duvall, but for those of us right here in Indiana to see the time and detailed attention that goes into caring for these animals.”

Indiana is a leading veal producing state. AVA appreciated the interest from Zippy Duvall and the Indiana Farm Bureau leaders to learn more about the veal industry.
